Ice Hockey

“The true strength of Ice Hockey was the unmistakable presence of fun.”
– from the full review, which you can read here.

If you do not like the NES video game Ice Hockey, you are irrational.

One of the most fun debates to enter with friends is the best four-man formation for your Ice Hockey squad. Do you go with three fatties and one skinny guy for face-offs? Do you go all medium-size guys and hope for the best as the game regresses toward the mean? Were you one of those crazy fast-paced players that played three skinnies to outskate the opponent but with one fatty for clutch shots? Isn’t it great that we have a game that lets us use the term “fatty” in a wonderfully complimentary fashion?

What a classic. Ice Hockey. Dang.

Also, I did a Let’s Play video, although I do get thrashed in it. Check it out:

  1. Awesome game… one little add in:

Eric, do you know about the built in codes? there were a few but the ones I loved were “friction-less puck”, and “no goalies”. Granted, this caused the game to get insanely high scoring, but it was sooo much fun. (that’s right with extra o’s)

  2. Now that you mention it, not only do I remember those codes but I think I played with frictionless puck so often that the “normal” way felt weird to me! Mmmm, Ice Hockey.
