Retro Games are fun and nostalgic; they bring most people’s childhood and teenage years back into techni-colour. Gamers who want a trip down memory lane can check out two excellent new options for the 3DS. These are Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of the Ages.
Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario has been ported across almost every one of Nintendo’s major gaming consoles. There are plenty of limited edition and specially packaged variants that make playing Super Mario an awesome experience.
Taking the tip from the 8-bit version that was released 25 years ago, Super Mario 3D world has five levels that culminate in a boss fight at the end of them. There are two types of boss fights to contend with. One has the Koopa king, where the player needs to pull the bridge out from under him. The other has an air ship rendition with Koopa underlings that need to be bopped on the head and dispatched.
All of the nostalgic parts of the original version including power ups like a super mushroom and fire flower are included along with vibrant colourful levels with spooky houses and cute creatures in attendance. The soundtrack features music from every release of the game, with a slight new remix, which really produces a trip down memory lane.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda was originally released 25 years ago by Nintendo and ever since then the franchise has been an enormous success. This is due to a deep and appealing storyline that unfolds gradually with satisfying boss battles, plus a quirky and lovable cast of characters.
The mainstays of Link and Zelda remain, but along with them are new mounts for Link including: Ricky the boxing Kangaroo, Dimitri the swimming Dodongo and Moosh the giant blue bear with funny little wings that allow him lovable little bursts of flight.
The Legend of Zelda is known for the epic Boss battles, and this game doesn’t disappoint as it has stimulating and tricky battles and a slew of new items and equipment to win. For cool geekery at parties, get the Wii with its innovative controller and enjoy other sentimental games.
